Selling FUN without a Video, HOW?

Continuing on our 2008 theme of bring ideas forward......

This past week in Rosemont, IL was the 29th Annual ChicagoLand Outdoors Show. An yes, despite football, cold weather and house work I did attend. {for those wondering, it's like fishing, my wife goes or I don't}

Every year we pass through the numerous displays of toys, trinkets and wonder lures anticipating ice out, {ice fishing really hasn't gotten us yet} but always look forward too visiting the numerous lodges and fishing camps that bring life back too our little part of the world. But this year, I had a little bug up my crawl....no Video...

Because the tech world we're in I have become spoiled. @ the CES Show in Vegas, attendees downloaded more than 10,000 programs onto SanDisk flash drives. But here I was still subjected to paper and still pictures, even the web site list of vendors didn't have links. An the bug start too grow...

My saturday mornings during this time is geared around watching the fishing shows from 6:00am till 10:30am. Almost too the point, when the turkey hunting series start it must be time to get out. And yes I would like to see a video of the lake, cabin and facilities where I'm going to spend the next week fishing. Some cases throw in a little bit about the surrounding area, Rhinelander Wis and Grand Rapids, Minn are wonderful places with many different attractions through out the year.

Chambers that take pride and memberships dues to pay for marketing events like this, have for some reason not taken this medium serious, which is sad. Fishman will all agree, each year we have to go a little further North because that family fishing site is sold into condo's. .....I have a camera on my boat to find fish, hello

Blu-Ray Association is starting to flex some muscle
in other areas of recordable media that HD DVD
will scramble to convert. Through an RSS feed
received this morning (CDFreaks.com), Imation
announced release of TDK brand 8cm recordable
Blu-ray Discs.

[For those not keeping up with consolidation
in media manufactures Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN)
closed acquisition of TDK brand in July.]

The focus is camcorder users. Postings from
the Blu-Ray Association (as far back as 05')
explains camcorder manufactures are switching
to Blu-ray with product release sometime in 08'
{typically Mar/Apr - when your finally caught up
paying for Christmas or income tax return shows}.
The home entertainment center is now the
battle ground, with the wanna-be directors
having access 1080i HD video.

These advancements are nice, an only proves
the battle for format supremacy will continue
well into 08' and 09'.

Glad too read my thinking is not far off.....

Even Video Business.com is looking into Wal Mart and
how the predicted $200 player will influence the market.

The safe-guard at this point, revolves around compliance
issues. We're not sure exactly what that entails but the
connection between China's play for a new DVD
format and their capacity to manufacture goods not
only in volume but cost sensitive, lends the mind
too Open Source thinking.

Following hardward is the standard path. This
new format could be instantly established. Like
all recorders firmware is used to update the units.
Though many still don't use it until something goes
wrong, this method of control or change makes
sense when items are already in place.

We all can agree in a supply driven economy
price will always be the leading factor. At
present movie houses understand their profit
margins based on current volumn sales. What
their not sure of , if they lowered prices would
there be an increase. An if so how much?

The point here is whether a new format
will have any meaning.
